So this little Bakersfield Photographer ventured into the glitzy and glamorous world of WPPI this week in the one and only Las Vegas, NV. I’ll admit, I was a little nervous. OK, a lot nervous. It was a whole week in Vegas and I would be surrounded by thousands of seriously talented photographers.
Would I last a week in Vegas? Would I make any friends? What if I get lonely, or bored or nobody wants to talk to me? Is Brad going to remember to feed my cat?… As silly as it seems, these are all questions that went through my head before WPPI. But, as it turns out, it was one of the best experiences I ever could have imagined. People did want to talk to me, and be my friend, and chat about this passion we share. I actually got to meet some photography role models of mine and made several new ones. I learned a lot, found a lot of motivation, and if you have been following via any social networking over the past week you may have noticed I used the word inspiration way too much. If you are a fellow photographer reading this, be sure to check out the Shutter Clique website for more specific information on WPPI.
Because I am a horribly uptight gambler, I didn’t have much luck in the casinos. However, I was so lucky to participate in a really cool shoot while in Vegas. I couldn’t have asked for a better person to attend WPPI with than Mrs. Jessica Frey. Not only is she super fun, but this little lady knows people…. lots of people, and of course she just happened to know people in Vegas. Beth and Amanda work at the Rio and were so nice to come model for us one afternoon. We met them in the arts district and found this cool place called the Gypsy Den. I took one look at the eclectic collection of chairs, doors and art outside the shop and was on my way across the street to ask if we could shoot there. It was just my kind of place! The folks at the Gypsy Den were absolutely wonderful and accommodating. If you are ever want to check out some music or a vintage boutique in Vegas, go there! They are also remodeling a wedding chapel. We were given a preview and trust me people, it will be a gorgeous and unique place to have a little Vegas wedding. Now that I have done all my raving… here are some of my favorite photos.
